<title>Number of pagan prisoners has doubled over four years</title>
<link>http://www.pentaclemagazine.org/pn760/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=2504</link>
<description>Paganism is on the rise in jails in England and Wales with the number of practising prisoners more than doubling in the past four years.

Paganism was recognised by the Prison Service as a religion more than eight years ago but since 2003 the numbers have risen steadily from 133 to 328 in 2007, according to figures published yesterday.

In Albany jail on the Isle of Wight, the number of pagan prisoners increased from 12 to 34 in eight months, making paganism the fifth most-practised religion in the Category B jail.

As today is Hallowe’en, pagan prisoners can opt not to work or attend education – inmates are allowed to select two dates from a list of annual festivals when they are excused from work – as the day is one of the religion’s key festivals.

In paganism Hallowe’en is known as Samhain – the Celtic new year – and the Prison Service has issued advice that though it is often celebrated with cider to mark the apple harvest, in jails this cannot be allowed. Instead, prison governors have been told that an apple on the altar can be a substitute for cider.

Inmates practising paganism are allowed among their personal possessions a hoodless robe, a flexible twig for a wand, incense and a piece of jewellery.

The Prison Service has made clear that the hoodless robe can be used only during private worship in an inmate’s cell or when a number of pagans in one prison gather together to worship.

Pagan prisoners are also allowed to have tarot cards but staff have barred them from using them to tell the fortunes of other prisoners. Nor is skyclad – naked pagan worship - allowed under the Prison Service rules.

The guidance to governors also says that pagans can use wine as part of their worship. “Where wine is used, it must be ordered through the prison chaplaincy department (not brought in by the pagan chaplain), stored securely and only be used under the pagan chaplain’s supervision. Individual consumption will be one sip only,” the guidance states.

<title>Macabre evidence of age-old spells surfaces in an archaeologist's front yard</title>
<link>http://www.pentaclemagazine.org/pn760/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=2500</link>
<description>Over the centuries, many in the British Isles have appealed to witches in times of need--to cure a toothache, concoct a love potion, or curse a neighbor. Witchcraft, the rituals of a number of pagan belief systems, was thought to offer control of the world through rites and incantations. Common as it has been over the past several centuries, the practice is secretive and there are few written records. It tends to be passed down through families and never revealed to outsiders. But archaeologist Jacqui Wood has unearthed evidence of more than 40 witchy rituals beneath her own front yard, bringing to light an unknown branch of witchcraft possibly still practiced today.</description>

<title>Thor he's a jolly tough fellow as he practises Stav</title>
<link>http://www.pentaclemagazine.org/pn760/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=2492</link>
<description>

NEIL Lewis from Walwa in far northeastern Victoria is a smallish man with long grey hair and mischievous eyes, and is surrounded by an aura of calm and serenity.

Just don't mess with him.

Beneath that calm pixie exterior is a 61-year-old who believes in the Norse gods, reads his runes every morning and can cleave an enemy in two in the blink of an eye.

Mr Lewis follows a lifestyle and self-defence system called Stav, stemming from the creed of the ancient Norsemen. It is a martial art with elements of judo and karate, but also has touches of tai chi and transcendental meditation.

&quot;Stav,&quot; said Mr Lewis, &quot;teaches that a free person has not only the right, but also a duty to defend one's self, one's family and country and one's belief.

&quot;If somebody tries to stab me, they are giving me a present. They thrust the knife at me as if it's a gift, so I just take it from them and give it back, generally through the eye.&quot;

Mr Lewis doesn't have to carry a broadsword or a viking axe to defend himself. In his hands a walking stick or hiking staff can instantly become deadly weapons.

<title>Horses cut in what could be witchcraft say locals</title>
<link>http://www.pentaclemagazine.org/pn760/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=2490</link>
<description>Two horses in Herefordshire have been attacked in what members of the local Horsewatch group and the owner say could involve witchcraft.

The mane of a 10-year-old Welsh Cob was cut off and left at the scene in Upper Sapey, near Worcester, on 15 August, while a second horse suffered cuts near the mane, possibly sustained from scissors.

Police are examining a pair of scissors found near the scene.

Owner Amy Jones said the horses are traumatised: &quot;It was very strange. There were marks on their faces. One had a strange L-shaped mark cut on its face.

&quot;It was a full moon. This could well involve someone doing a black magic ritual with the mane, which was cut up. &quot;

A police spokesman said the incident might be related to another at Upton Bishop, near Ross-On-Wye on 3 August when three horses had their manes cut off.

Ali Cann, chairman of Herefordshire and Shropshire Horsewatch urged local horse owners to join the group and share information.

She said: &quot;Horse people need to act together and share information, particularly at the moment it is vital.&quot;

If anyone has further information call West Mercia Police on 08457 444888.

<title>'Sexist' witch burning banned </title>
<link>http://www.pentaclemagazine.org/pn760/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=2489</link>
<description>Government busybodies have ordered a medieval village to drop a witch burning drama from its birthday pageant - because it's too sexist.

The spectacular blaze - featuring dummy witches - was to have been the highlight of the fair to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the ancient Polish village, Zielona Gora.

The witch-burning was planned as part of a medieval fair featuring jousting knights and minstrels this weekend.

But Polish women's rights groups and government ministers have banned the display after protests that the stake-burning drama was anti-feminist.

&quot;Making peoples' tragic deaths into a tourist attraction is reprehensible and regrettable,&quot; said Monika Platek, head of Poland's Association for Legal Education.

&quot;The stakes where women were burned were the result of profound misogyny, discrimination against women and ignorance.&quot;

Poland's women's ministry boss Berenika Anders told the town council it had to scrap the witch sessions.

<title>THE WITCHES SPELL</title>
<link>http://www.pentaclemagazine.org/pn760/index.php?name=News&amp;file=article&amp;sid=2485</link>
<description>The front page of the Ely Standard for August 28th 2008
Carried the story that a Witch by the name of Kevin Carlyon was to
Put a spell on the anniversary celebrations for Oliver Cromwell’s death on September 6th.
This is the latest public in a series of curses put out by Witches,
Since the W.W.II curses against Hitler,
 Then in 2006 the curse against Tony and Cherie Blair, for betraying Britain
and the Bombing of Iraq, and now the spell to stop the Cromwell celebrations.
The accusation is that Oliver Cromwell saw and did nothing to help people from all over the country but particularly East Anglia from being imprisoned, tortured and hanged, under Mathew Hopkins the Witchfinder general, with over 300 people are said to have been murdered Between 1645 and 1647
Twenty people were charged with witchcraft alone in and imprisoned in Ely jail, now the museum.
The Bible written largely in Greek, Latin and Hebrew, is not clear on what a witch actually is, the Hebrew word for Witch is kaskah, which meant a poisoner, liar or keeper of serpents, what sounds nowadays like a politician.
 There is no doubt that King Charles the first did not value or respect his subjects, and needed to go, and love him or hate him, in order to finance the New Modal army in the civil war, Cromwell from his H.Q. at the Inn at Saffron Walden, allowed back the Jewish moneylenders who were thrown out of Britain centuries before.
The only time Christ in the bible lost his temper and smashed the place up,
was over the money changers in the temple, the crime of usury cuts deep in Christianity yet this was actually condoned by Christian clerics.
At Cromwell’s death on Sept 3rd 1658 a flock of crows was seen cawing round the house, a bird of ill omen it was said at the time it was a sign he would go to hell.
Oliver Cromwell on horseback and the Military enactments will be on the Cathedral green from 10 until 4 Saturday Sept.6th.
Curses notwithstanding !
